Construction and Workplace Injuries

construction and workplace injuries
Construction sites are dangerous. Excavation, placement of underground utilities, movement of materials, concrete pouring, steel erection, installation of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, natural gas purging operations, utility and HVAC startup, and roofing all present risks to safety. If you’ve worked construction you know that planning and communication are the keys to safety, and you also know that schedule and cost are always at odds with safety. How many times has a project superintendent yelled at subs that they don’t care what the sub’s excuses are they just want the work finished? How many times are morning safety meetings nothing more than going through the motions? Improper shoring, incorrect fall protection, lack of ventilation, faulty equipment, or not following proper procedures can all lead to serious injury and death. We rarely see a construction site injury case where corners weren’t cut, safety procedures weren’t followed, or OSHA regulations or other laws weren’t violated.

Any workplace can be dangerous if safety isn’t a priority. Warehouse operations, manufacturing facilities, chemical processing and storage, oilfield, and offshore oil and gas operations are all dangerous.
